I got invited to attend a social media strategy meeting today with some select young marketing people and the VP of Target Social Media herself. The task given to us pre-meeting was to look at and remark on all of Target's social media platforms and accounts and then bring that insight into the meeting to discuss. I don't know if they knew what they were getting into when they invited me to this, but boy am I excited! I've spent the past hour scrolling through Target's Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest accounts, as well as their LinkedIn and brand blog. Most people scrolling through probably are looking for information.. but me, my eyes get excited and look at punctuation and Twitter etiquette (using "RT" correctly, etc.), and I scan the captions to see if the syntax matches the brand perception. I shake my head at vague replies to guest complaints and the overusage of tiny-URLs when posting a more easily-loadable picture instead was a better option. I checked all the platforms and tried to gauge if the brand message was consistent toward all platforms - does Target sound like one, put-together and cool person, or does it sound schizophrenic with different types of voices all over the internet?
I really do think I have found the spark of passion in brand management and social media strategy; I am so excited for the conversation later today!
