Flying to Hong Kong, I had a direct flight from Houston to Beijing, which can also be described as 17 long hours of hearing screaming Asian babies and cramped back and legs. So for the flight on the way back, I requested that my mom book a ticket with as many stopovers as practically possible, because I physically can't sit still in one seat in a crowded plane for very long at a time. In fact, I enjoy stopovers because I like wandering around airports - nowadays it's hard to tell the difference between an airport terminal and a mall.
The first leg of the flight back was only two and half hours - From Hong Kong to Taipei, and in my 2-hour layover, I got the one thing that one must get while in Taiwan: bubble tea! The balls in my drink were the best tapioca bubbles I have ever had! The airport was small but really cutely designed so I enjoyed that with my bubble tea until it was time for my next flight.
The second flight was the longest; it was 10 hours from Taipei to Los Angeles. This flight was like a mini-vacation in itself. I watched the movie American Hustle, ate a good meal, took a long 6-hour nap, then ate another good meal. It was perfect! Getting to LA was such a relief - there were Americans everywhere! The Immigration and Customs video said "Welcome Back to America, and if you live here, welcome home" and omg I got the best feeling ever inside of me. The flight from LA to Houston felt sooo long but I met my mom right at baggage claim and got to feel the pure happiness from finally being wrapped up in the arms of your home.
